Question for those who learned English as a second language

For those of you who learned English as a second language, I’m curious: What does English sound like? Being a native speaker, it’s difficult to separate myself from how the language actually sounds. I’ve been able to do it a bit since I’ve been learning French. French is my second language, and I think it sounds so smooth and beautiful and throaty and poetic. Speaking French, for me, at least, is quite a contrast from speaking English, which can be smooth but has a much rounder sound, if that makes any sense. From what I can gather, English can be very harsh and slightly guttural. At least in comparison to French.

So I’m curious: what does English sound like? And please be completely honest—I genuinely want to know. I won’t be offended in the slightest, seriously. Linguistics fascinates me.
